Bereavement

In an effort to express compassion towards our employees, Miller Pipeline will provide a salary replacement plan for employees who experience the loss of a family member as defined in the bereavement policy. This policy applies to all regular full-time employees regardless of union status.

Employees who experience the loss of a family member and wish to take time off should notify their immediate supervisor regarding the funeral arrangements. Miller Pipeline will pay a maximum of three (8-hour) days for time off to attend the funeral of an immediate family member as defined below. For extended family members, as defined below, Miller Pipeline will pay one (8-hour) day for time off to attend the funeral. Additional unpaid time off may be granted at the approval of the employee’s supervisor.

A. Immediate Family Member
Immediate family is considered an employee’s spouse, child, stepchild, parent, stepparent, brother, sister, stepbrother/sister, parent-in-law, son/daughter-in-law, grandparent, step grandparent, grandchild, step grandchild.

B. Extended Family Member
Extended family is considered an employee’s sister-in-law, brother-in-law, uncle, aunt, niece or nephew.
To receive bereavement pay, an employee is required to complete an Absence Notification Form within one week of returning from bereavement leave. Absence Notification Forms are available in Human Resources. The completed form shall include the employee’s name, title, department, supervisor’s name and date(s) of absence while attending the funeral. Under the Reason for Request section, the employee must specify “Funeral Pay” in the box labeled “Other”.The employee must also include the name of the deceased and relationship in the comment section of the form. The supervisor must sign the form and forward it to the payroll department. The Payroll Department will process bereavement pay at the next regularly scheduled payroll week.
